Monday, 12th September - Tucumcari to Santa Fe

180 miles today mainly along new roads as there isn't much of old Route 66 left hereabouts.

First stop was the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa. A private collection of around 30 vehicles all "classic" US iron.

All superbly restored and with outstanding paint finish. Some are for sale. The blue pick-up above could be yours for a cool $28000.

Onward to Santa Fe via the road that follows the route of the old Santa Fe Trail. We passed through the highest point on Route 66, Glorieta at an elevation of 7500 feet, whilst driving through the most beautiful, mountainous scenery.

Our hotel for the next couple of nights is the Inn of the Governors right in the middle of what has to be one of if not the most picturesque cities in the USA. All low rise and adobe. Pictures to follow ......
