Thursday, 15th September - Albuquerque

In the morning we took a trip on the Sandia Peak "tram" (cable car in "English") from Albuquerque's elevation of around 6500ft to 10300ft at the Peak (hence the name of the cafe up there).

Spectacular views of up to, or so we were told, 80 miles that my phone camera really doesn't do justice to.

To the west, out towards the airport:

To the east:

Back down to earth, we visited the museum celebrating the lives of local motor racing heroes, the Unser family (Al Unser Sr. a record equalling 4 Indianapolis 500 wins, brother Bobby Unser 3 wins and son Al Jr. 2 wins)

The model car in the case below was the first Indy Car designed in a wind tunnel, using the model, by Roger Penske' team and is insured for $1M.

This is Al Unser Sr's 1987 record equalling car:

A fabulous museum honouring a legendary family. The adjacent building holds Al Unser Sr's archive of trophies, race helmets and overalls, winner's champagne bottles etc etc. Testament to a quite incredible career.

Tonight we dine at Glyn and Jeanne's with mother Barbara and daughter Sara before we bid them, and Albuquerque, farewell. A wonderful 3 days with Suse's family, a real holiday within a holiday.
