Tuesday, 13th September - Santa Fe
Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the USA having been designated as such in 1610 and today we had the pleasure of a walking tour accompanied by Suse's aunt, Barbara, and cousin, Glyn.
Barbara's knowledge of the history of Santa Fe is second to none. We stopped off for coffee and cake in a French patisserie.
We passed by the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi (unable to go in as service taking place) - picture in yesterday's blog - and visited the Loretto Chapel with its famous miraculous spiral staircase (a cynic might say it was an easy way to make a quick buck ....) before we headed up Canyon Road with its multitude of art stores and then back into town past the Santa Fe River.
Barbara and Glyn departed back to Albuquerque early afternoon leaving us to explore the retail opportunities (offered in abundance) in the city centre. These include at least two Christmas shops.
Purchases may have been made.
On Barbara's recommendation we dined at a quirky New Mexican restaurant called The Shed in the evening. VERY good. Red, green and (more) Christmas to be had.
Another excellent opportunity to stop for cake - yummy!
